What is your year and major?

I am a junior, and am studying Business with an independent concentration in Sustainability.

What does sustainability mean to you?

To me, sustainability means being environmentally friendly and caring about the earth. It means thinking long term about your actions and shaping your choices in a way that will promote good for the future. Conserving resources, recycling, etc are all part of what it means to me to be sustainable.

How have you been involved in promoting sustainability on campus?

I am currently an employee of the Office of Sustainability. My role in the office is to promote awareness of the work our team members and on campus, environmentally focused clubs do. This includes sharing events (such as the Sustainable Film Series) and spreading knowledge about how our office intends to reach goals and what we have already achieved as a university. I was also a member of E.A.T. club for two years.

What are some things you do in your personal life to live sustainably?

I try to live sustainably in small ways such as recycling, using a reusable water bottle, walking instead of driving places, etc. I think people can make more of an impact than they think, just by making small, simple changes to their daily lives. I also believe in exploring/enjoying nature in order to remember why it is important to be sustainable — what is it, after all, that we want to sustain/protect?

How could Gonzaga continue to improve its sustainability efforts?

While I think Gonzaga is doing an awesome job becoming a sustainable school, there is always more work that can be done. One thing that really sticks out to me is how much we water on campus. Maybe there is a way to reduce water consumption in that area. Otherwise, I think continuing to grow awareness about our efforts is key.

How will you continue to promote sustainability after you leave Gonzaga?

I will continue to promote sustainability after I leave Gonzaga by not abandoning my current practicing and taking with me any new knowledge I gain.
