What is your position and department?

I’m a second year assistant professor in the physics department here at GU.

Tell us about your green commute choice.

I walk to my office every morning from home. When I moved to Spokane, I prioritized finding an apartment that allowed me to walk to work everyday.

What are some of the benefits of walking to work that you’ve noticed?

It definitely helps me wake up in the morning! By the time I get to my office, I’m ready to start my day.

What are some of the other things you do in your personal life to live sustainably?

I take advantage of the free STA bus pass that my GU ID provides. It’s a great way to get away town. I also bring all of my compostable items from home to campus to deposit in the various compost bins on campus. I similarly compost anything from my office, such as used food containers and used coffee beans.

How could Gonzaga continue to improve its commute trip reduction efforts?

I’m looking forward to when STA’s Central City Line, which will be a Bus Rapid Transit route connecting Browne’s Addition to Spokane Community College through downtown Spokane and the University District, will be in place. It will be a few years before it’s fully operational, but I expect it will really help GU community members more easily connect with downtown Spokane. Students in particular should really appreciate the convenience of the added line in the near future.
